OMZ Special Steels puts heat test unit into operation

OMZ Special Steels, a part of OMZ Group, has put a heat test unit into operation.

The unit is aimed at evaluating rotor radial run out (RRO) during temperature rise and evaluating rotor bow at a constant temperature level as well as during cooling-down. The unit allows to process rotors weighing from two to 135 tons, having 250-2150 mm diameter and length of 1,500-10,000 mm.

Integration of the heat test unit at OMZ-Special Steels was determined by stricter requirements for rotor manufacturers including delivery of rotors capable of deeper processing and full-cycle testing able to perform both final mechanical processing and heat testing. In this regard agreements on joint projects established between OMZ-Special Steels with Power Machines, one of the most important OMZ-Special Steels’ customers became a key factor for the company.

Putting of heat test units into operation will allow OMZ-Special Steels to carry out full cycle works involved in final mechanical processing of solid-forged rotors. This will increase competitiveness of company’s products and allow it to enter new distribution markets, therefore expanding company’s order book.

All the unit construction activities including equipment delivery, engineering documentation development, foundation establishment, assembly and commissioning are performed by Keratech (Czech Republic).

OMZ-Special Steels purchased the equipment as a part of an investment program supported by its financial partner Gazprombank.
