Izhorskiye Zavody Continues Manufacturing Equipment for Kudankulam NPPIzhorskiye Zavody, being a part of the OMZ Group, has started assembling the transport lock for Unit three of Kudankulam NPP (India).
The transport lock is a hermetically locked chamber and is designed to protect NPP personnel and the environment from radioactive exposure when refueling and bringing-in and removing the equipment during installation and scheduled preventive maintenance while operating a power unit.
The transport lock is a highly engineered product, which is one of the key large-sized and heavy structures of a reactor compartment of a power unit. Transport lock length is 14 meters, diameter of the central section is 9 meters, and weight is 280 tons.
Izhorskiye Zavody manufactured and supplied the first such products to Units one and two of Kudankulam NPP in 2008-2009. Today, the transport locks for Units three, four, five and six of India’s NPP are in production at IZ.
The successful cooperation between IZ and its Indian partners in the sphere of nuclear power industry began in 2002, when Izhorskiye Zavody started manufacturing the vessel equipment for the first stage of Kudankulam NPP. The Company delivered the primary circuit equipment for the first two NPP Units, including nuclear reactor vessels and internals and transport locks for refueling and scheduled maintenance. Production of the equipment was completed in 2008. Kudankulam NPP Unit one was put into operation in 2013 and Unit two in 2016.
At the present time, equipment for Units three and four of Kudankulam NPP is in production at Izhorskiye Zavody. The main part of the equipment for Unit three, including VVER-1000 reactor vessel, has already been shipped to the Customer. In addition, this year in February, Izhorskiye Zavody started delivering the equipment for Kudankulam NPP Unit four, that is the inspection well equipment and embedded parts for Unit four of India’s NPP were delivered to the Customer.
